👋 Introduction

Founded in 1868, UCC Rowing Club is one of the oldest and most successful sports clubs at University College Cork. Based on the Marina in Cork City, we are a student-run, high-performance club that welcomes novices eager to start a competitive rowing journey, as well as experienced rowers looking to compete at club, intermediate, or senior levels.

Joining UCCRC is about more than sport. It's about becoming part of a community where you'll build lifelong friendships, push your limits, and experience unforgettable moments on and off the water. Whether you're new to rowing but committed to competition, or an experienced rower looking to represent UCC at regattas, we have a place for you.

Our values are passion, pride, belief, and respect— and these guide everything we do, from rigorous training sessions on the Lee to representing UCC at regattas across Ireland and beyond. With expert coaching, strong support from UCC Sport, and a legacy of success, we're here to help every athlete achieve their competitive goals.

🏴‍☠️ Getting Started

We are currently welcoming experienced rowers to join us immediately, with recruitment for novices (no previous experience required) beginning in the coming weeks.

Our club is located on the Marina in Cork City, easily identifiable near Cortado coffee shop ☕️. We take pride in our newly renovated boathouse and state-of-the-art facilities, which we share with Presentation Brothers College Cork. These excellent resources position us perfectly for an exciting and successful season ahead.

Getting to the Boathouse

• Cycling 🚴‍♀️: 15 minutes from main campus. TFI bike stations conveniently located near both our boathouse and by the Green Frog Café 🐸 at UCC main gates.
• Carpooling 🚙: 15 minute drive. Many members organise regular lifts between campus/city and the boathouse.
• Public Transport 🚌: 35 minutes via bus routes 208 and 212 to Blackrock. Plan your journey using TFI Live app or Google Maps.

Our location on the Marina offers beautiful riverside training conditions just a short journey from campus!

We offer flexible training options to accommodate student schedules:

• On-water training sessions are available midweek (TBC) and on weekend mornings (Saturday and Sunday) between 7:30 AM and 12:00 PM (exact schedule to be confirmed)
• Indoor training facilities with rowing machines are conveniently located on the UCC campus (availability to be confirmed)
• Training is flexible, we understand students' busy schedules. We use Strava to track training, allowing students to complete training sessions on their own time outside of scheduled water sessions.

Our coaching team works closely with athletes to develop training plans based on experience level and competitive goals.
